I have a couple Damascus steel knives and love them. This blade of this razor is made of Damascus steel, which when itās hardened is supposedly better than stainless. This is a razor that might be used on special occasions ⦠for showing off. This is definitely a collectible, one my husband will cherish. He loves the look and at one time did use a straightedge blade. This would be perfect for a real barber to have on hand for shaving and tidying up the neck.
The blade is sharp and because itās made of high carbon Damascus steel, it will hold an edge better than stainless. The swirled patten on the blade gives it an amazing, natural look. Damascus steel always looks like flowing water from a stream. Speaking of water, care must be taken to keep the knife clean and dry to prevent rust.
The composition of the handle adds to the look as itās walnut. The handle of the razor and the blade are solidly riveted together and will last for years. Thereās no blade lock, something to note. The small sheaf looks handmade as well. Itās made of good quality cowhide and Iām not seeing any blue in the edges, something that indicates scrap leather. It has good solid stitching around the edges and a nice logo stamped into the center. I do love it, but it's very pricey, even more so than Damascus knives.

I've been using a straight razor to shave for several years. I liked what I was using, until I got the Drian Damascus Straight Razor. It's hefty but well balanced, and the Damascus/pattern welded carbon steel blade is beautiful and adequately sharp. The shave that I got with it was decent. My biggest problem is that I want to display it as much as use it!
There are a couple of things that the buyer should be aware of. First, yes, it comes with a layer of oil on the blade. This is to prevent rust until you get it and start using it. As a high carbon steel blade, rust is something that can ruin a blade quickly, so I thought that it was a good thing to see.
Second, the blade is not perfectly shaving sharp right out of the box. Since I'm a knife geek, I have a set of sharpening hones that I was able to bring it up to snuff without any difficulty. That being said, it's very common for new straight razors to be somewhat less than shaving sharp straight from the factory, even with the highest end razors.
Finally, let's talk about price. At about $150 this razor is priced at the lower end of mid-tier quality straight razors. Yeah, it's more expensive than a lot of others that you see on Amazon, but when you start talking about razors with high quality steel, high manufacturing quality controls, and good customer service, those all go into higher pricing for the goods. Naked Armor (the company that makes and sells this razor) has incredible customer service.
Is this a perfect razor? No. But, none of them are. This one is very good quality, but the weight makes it something that I wouldn't recommend for a first-time straight razor user. It is very well balanced for the weight, which is good. With a little touch up on the blade, this makes for both a very attractive and decently good shaving experience.
Really high end straight razor, very beautiful design and feels high quality materials. I like everything about it starting from the packaging and the leather case, to the razor itself, everything feels and looks premium. It is well made and well designed. The Damascus steel adds a uniqueness to it, the blade is very sharp and the handle is made of strong walnut wood. All that makes it very sturdy, comfortable and easy to use. It would make a great gift, I really love it.
So I have to start by mentioning that Iām a beginner at using the straight razor. Some time ago I found an old straight razor from 50+ years ago and tried reconditioning it. The edge would literally fall off as Iām finishing it, probably because it was worn too deep or left in the elements for too many years. Anyhow, I learned a lot about how bad a razor can be from that. So, I am really excited to own a new quality razor.
I keep a beard and so I just want to manage the neck and cheeks. The cheeks are easy. The neck has been a lot more challenging. All the maneuvering to get just a few square inches is what this is about. With my Merkur Iām done in a minute. I know it will take time to build the skill to be quick.
The sharpness is good. I have a strop and have used it after every use. No need to pull out the sharpening stones.
Thereās no issue with the edge or anything being bent or curved.
I donāt think any straight razor is for beginners but I gave it full stars on that category because I canāt imagine there being a better choice to start with.
Any straight razor Iāve seen is about $100 or more, so I donāt think the price is wrong. But I donāt think they are trying to compete on price. Youāre paying an extra dollar or so for the steel look and wooden handle.
They included a card that says theyāll let you send it to them to resharpen if the edge seems not to your satisfaction, and send you a shavette for while they work on it, if you need that. This strikes me as very good customer care.
Overall, Iād say worth it to buy it.
